My Philosophy

As a Childbirth Educator, I strive to teach the birthing person, and their life partners all they will need to know to have a safe and satisfying birth. I lay the foundational knowledge that will assist you in making the necessary decisions to have a healthy pregnancy, delivery, and raise your baby to the fullest potential.

As a doula, I accompany the birthing person in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. I have received education for the doula's role from Birth Bootcamp. I draw on my knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort and, as needed, confidence in communicating with the staff of your birthing location to ensure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions as they arise in you pregnancy, labor and long after the birth. I provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, massage, positioning and other techniques for comfort.

I am an independent doula. As your doula, I am working for you, not your caregiver or the hospital. I believe that you are in charge of your own birth and that I am the invited guest. I am there to serve you to help you have the type of birth you have envisioned for yourself.

"My husband couldn't make it to the birth. But Emerald made me feel so comfortable and supported. She always knew the right thing to say and was even so prepared for me and my family while I was in labor." -Stephanie C.
My Story

In 2011, my mother told me she was pregnant. I was a teenager then, and being that this was my mothers first pregnancy I would remember, I wanted to be apart of it all! I went to prenatal appointments at the OB/GYN with her, read books with my mother, and did my own research about pregnancy. I remember being so fascinated by it all, and I begged her to allow me to be there for the birth. After all, I was SO excited to meet my sister right away.

However, I wasn't able to attend my mother's birth. Due to health concerns for my mother, she ended up having a cesarean and I could not attend in the OR. But, I saw my new baby sister at just a few hours old! I fell in love with babies and children; so much so, that I set out for a degree in Early Childhood Education. I worked as a preschool teacher and private nanny for 7 years, where I learned a deep respect for birth, postnatal care, and the developing human child. As the years progressed, I took college courses and became self educated in pregnancy, childbirth and, of course, child development. The more I learned, and fell in love, the more I couldn't decide what I wanted to do professionally. One afternoon my friend told me I would make a perfect doula. I thought, "DOULA?! What is that?!" and started doing some research, my favorite thing to do. It sounded PERFECT!

In 2016, I signed up for a conference through Birth Arts International and a friend of mine, pushed me for FOUR months to meet her friend looking for a doula. So finally, I gave my soon-to-be second client a call. We hit it off immediately during our consultation, and the rest was been history. I began booking births quickly after my first prenatal appointment. I LOVED birth work and found a passion for applying all the education I've learned formally and privately, and channeling it into helping a mother become a mother.

Birth work is my calling. I will always have a passion for Child Development and love watching little ones learn and develop. But my place is in the birth room reminding a mother-to-be of her inner strength, in a classroom teaching a mother-to-be to have confidence in herself and make informed decisions about her labor to bring her child into this world.

I moved to Tennessee in 2019 with my husband, stepping away from my own corporate career to purchase a farm and begin the journey of homesteading. With the farm beginning to run smoothly, I was ready for my next step, to get back to what I believe I am destined to do. In 2021, I began the process of re-certifying my Doula Certification through Birth Boot Camp, and added a Childbirth Educator Certification as well.

I am honored to be given the privilege to hold space while the expectant family journeys through this rite of passage and the birthing person, who not only births a baby, but births a new side to her that awaits after labor is over, and a new addition joins the family. My goal is to give a birthing person, and her birthing partner(s), excellent birth services focusing on educated birth decisions and providing any support I can to the parent(s) to be.
